We build sustainable sites to reduce pollution, rehabilitate sites that are complicated by environmental contamination and to reduce the impact on the environment which preserves natural resources and wildlife habitats. Conserving open space in our natural areas promotes biodiversity, which limits disruption on surrounding environments. We also apply a process of increasing "storm-water" filtration, that helps to reduce pollution and eliminates harmful contaminants from water runoff.

 

 

 


By using water efficient landscaping technics we are able to reduce irrigation requirements that are needed. With a focus on using native or adapted plants as well as the use of high-efficiency equipment and/or climate-based controllers we have found ways to minimize water consumption. We also look to maximize water efficiency within buildings by using low-flow water fixtures to reduce the burden on our fresh water supply. The design of the building envelope is another way to make a building efficient, by designing the HVAC, lighting, and other systems to maximize energy performance. These steps reduce ozone depletion and optimizes overall energy performance, which lessen environmental and economic impacts associated with excessive energy use. We also look towards on-site renewable energy which encourages self-supply, minimizing direct contributions to global warming.


Materials and resources are major parts in the construction process. By finding new ways to incorporate “green” practices into these building steps, we feel that we are really making a difference in commercial building. We look to conserve resources while reducing building waste lessening the impact of new buildings as they relate to materials manufacturing and transport. We redirect resources back to the manufacturing process, items like cardboard, metal, brick, concrete, plastic, clean wood, glass and carpet. We also try to incorporate building materials and products that are extracted and manufactured within the region, reducing the environmental impacts resulting from transportation.


Another important step on our commercial green checklist is indoor air quality performance. Enhancing indoor air quality in buildings while providing ventilation system monitoring, helps improve overall comfort and well being. We also look to provide additional outdoor air ventilation which is meant to improve indoor air quality for a even greater overall comfort. We are also big on Low-VOC materials such as: paints, coatings, carpeting, construction adhesives, flooring adhesives, fire-stopping sealants, caulking, duct sealants, plumbing adhesives, and cove base adhesives. We select products that are either certified under the Green Label Plus program or those that have been tested by qualified independent laboratories.
